Drink Walking

Graham | 27/09/2012 | COMMENTS:No Comments »

I should start a list of the cranks that are pushing the nanny state.

A WORRIED Melbourne parent believes the city has become so violent at night he has begun campaigning to ban “drink-walking”.

Father-of-three Mike Cockburn last week launched a website calling for the introduction of laws making it illegal to walk the city streets with a blood alcohol content above .08 per cent…

If the ambitious campaign is successful, police would use breathalysers to detect pedestrians over the limit.

The “drink-walkers” would be fined or locked up, depending on their level of impairment, Mr Cockburn said.

Good Greif 🙁

The Project

We were watching “The Project” last night.  Then on a story about the airline industry came this.  Haven’t laughed so much.

Warning – for over 18s only 😉

Would you believe that the original YouTube vision has been taken down.  Found this one though.  Think I will save it and put it on the site as a video

In a paper published in Nature Climate Change, Ove Hoegh-Guldberg, director of the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland, together with Greg Rau of the Institute of Marine Sciences at the University of California, and Elizabeth McLeod of The Nature Conservancy, say new tactics are needed to save oceans from CO2 emissions.

“It’s unwise to assume we will be able to stabilise atmospheric CO2 at levels necessary to prevent ongoing damage to marine ecosystems,” Professor Hoegh-Guldberg said.

“In lieu of dealing with the core problem – increasing emissions of greenhouse gases – these techniques and approaches could ultimately represent the last resort.”

In addition to using shade cloth over coral reefs, the paper suggests novel marine conservation options, including applying low-voltage electrical current to stimulate coral growth and mitigate mass bleaching; adding base minerals such as carbonates and silicates to the ocean to neutralize acidity; and converting CO2 from land-based waste into dissolved bicarbonates that could be added to the ocean to provide carbon sequestration.

Quote of the Week: Whether increasing CO2 in the atmosphere is bad or good is a question of science. And in science, truth and facts are not the playthings of causes, nor a touchstone of political correctness, nor true religion, nor “what I tell you three times is true.”

Movie time

Last night found us two at the pictures with the Meriba group.  This is the old Quota club.  Raising money for breast cancer.
The show was “The Lucky One”.  This is a serious love story set in the USA.  A chick flick if you want.  The plot is very thin – from my male perspective, but the girls just loved it.
Be aware though there is a very hot love scene about half way.
No rating as it is a girly film.
