P2P 2014

Well it arrived. The 2014 Pier to Pub.  1.2Km open water swim.where I was in the Super Veteran class.  5000 entrants.

There was some trepidation I must say.  On holidays for 4 months (June – October) then the local 25meter pool closing for a year.  Virtually no training.

Went to Belmont – some 90Km for a swim several times in November, and put in some K’s into the arms.

Anyhow the day was beautiful, tide was out which  increased the beach sprint. Seas were calm. Perfect for an ocean swim.

Surprised I was that I just kept rolling the shoulders at a constant rhythm.  Not fast, never have been. No paddle to catch breath at all.

Time was 21:55.  Previous PB 28:06.   Very happy about that.

Until next year ?

Jumping sea snails

I ask.  Who pays for research into this stuff.  Note when predicting AGW events nowadays the caveats could, would, suggest and may are always used.

Are research grants available to any thing that has AGW in it ?

THE effects of climate change could hinder sea snails’ extraordinary ability to leap away from predators on one foot, Queensland researchers have found.

Study co-author Professor Goran Nilsson, from the University of Oslo, says results of the study suggest carbon dioxide emissions directly alter the behaviour of many marine animals, including seafood.

My emphasis.

Paddy

Paddy had long heard the stories of an amazing family tradition.
It seems that his father, grandfather and great-grandfather had all been able to walk on water on their 18th birthday.
On that special day, they’d each walked across the lake to the pub on the far side for their first legal drink.
So when Paddy’s 18th birthday came around, he and his pal Mick, took a boat out to the middle of the lake, Paddy, stepped out of the boat …and nearly drowned!

Mick just barely managed to pull him to safety.
Furious and confused, Paddy went to see his grandmother .
“Grandma,” he asked, “Tis me 18th birthday, so why can’t I walk across the lake like me father, his father and his father before him?”
Granny looked deeply into Paddy’s, troubled blue eyes and said,
“Because ye father, ye grandfather and ye great-grandfather were all born in December, when the lake is frozen, and ye were born in August, ya idiot !

Global Cooling

Graham | 03/12/2013 | COMMENTS:No Comments »

Not Global Warming or Climate Change or Extreme Events.  The earth may be entering a cooling stage or an ice age !

Scientists are now thinking it may be the sun.  Now who would-a thought that.

This cooling meme and the sun has been around for a long time.  With no warming for 16 years and the seas rising as they have for a least a century. The climate models are failing, now looking for an excuse to back away.

Scientists are now beginning to rethink their climate change models and are seriously discussing the possibility the earth is entering into a period of global cooling.

Environmentalist Lawrence Solomon writing in the Financial Post cites the fact that solar activity is currently decreasing at one of the fastest rates as anytime the last 10,000 years. Because of this, he says many scientists are actually reverting from the mantra of global warming and are now subscribing to the possibility of global cooling occurring.

The AGW gravy train may be ending, slowly.               So what will be the next scare?  My guess – Water.
